In 1762, John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, had his hands full, literally. As First Sea Lord, he commanded the mighty British Navy, was a noted explorer, and also a dedicated gambler with a love of day long card games. This led to little time for food, so he came up with the ingenious idea (some say at the card table) of putting meat between two slices of bread. Thus in 1762, the sandwich was named after its inventor, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Transportation Details: Passengers drive to the Grand Canyon West Rim for check-in and boarding The West Rim is an approximate 2.5 hour drive from Las Vegas, NV Sample Itinerary: Check-in at Grand Canyon West Terminal Clients will board helicopter and begin descent to the bottom of the canyon. (Flight time is approximately 5-7 minutes) Descend approximately 4,000 feet while marveling in the scenic views of the canyon walls Upon landing, hike to the base of the river to board pontoon boat. Enjoy a 1 (one) mile float trip on the Colorado River (approximately 15-20 minutes) Return to helipad for flight to the rim of the canyon Clients will board a shuttle to multiple stops along the rim. Time spent at each stop is at the client’s discretion First stop is the Hualapai Ranch. A re-creation of the old west that includes a small town with cowboys and gunfights Next stop is at a lookout point where an enormous eagle-like rock formation is located and was named after, Eagle Point Last stop is Guano Point. The Palace is perhaps best known as the home of Mary, Queen of Scots, and as the setting for many of the dramatic episodes in her turbulent reign. Mary was married at Holyroodhouse and witnessed the brutal killing of her secretary Rizzio by her jealous second husband, Lord Darnley, in her private apartments. The Palace briefly served as the headquarters of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the 1745 uprising. Today the State Apartments are used regularly by The Queen and other members of the Royal Family for State ceremonies and official entertaining. What there is to see: The State Apartments reflect the changing tastes of successive monarchs and are renowned for their fine plasterwork ceilings and magnificent furnishings, particularly the unrivalled collection of Brussels tapestries.  One of the most famous rooms in the Palace is the Great Gallery, hung with  Jacob de Wet's portraits of the real and legendary kings of Scotland. Included on the visit, a display focuses on the Order of the Thistle, the highest honour in Scotland.  The Order honours Scottish men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a particular way to national life. Shown alongside historic insignia is an example of the mantle worn at the Thistle ceremony at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, which The Queen attends during her visit to the Palace in July. From 1 April to 31 October the gardens, which are today used for garden parties, can be included as part of a visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Visitors to the gardens must keep to the paths, which are about 400 yards long.
