Die Brennerei wurde im Jahr 1824 unter dem Namen Elchies Distillery gegründet. Ab 1892 erhielt sie durch Roderick Kemp den Namen Macallan-Glenlivet. Durch Kemp wurde der Whisky dieser Destillerie dann auch im ganzen Land bekannt. Durch die hohe Qualität erreichte der Whisky aus dem Hause Macallan so etwas wie Kultstatus und heute ist man die drittgrößte Malt Whisky Destillerie in Schottland. 1979 wurde der Name dann nochmal in The Macallan Distillery geändert. So heißt sie bis heute. Bis zum Jahr 1996 war die Brennerei noch im Familienbesitz, ging dann aber an die 1887 Company. Macallan Select Oak 1824 ist ein typischer Speyside Whisky, den man probiert haben sollte.Charakteristik:Hergestellt wird dieser Single-Malt Whisky nach alter schottischer Tradition. Und diese Tradition wurde bei dem Select Oak ganz besonders ernst genommen. Es kamen sowohl Fässer aus amerikanischer Eiche die ehemals Bourbon Whisky enthielten und spanische Sherry-Fässer zur Anwendung. Er ist ein absolutes Meisterwerk, von dem man sich unbedingt eine Flasche sichern sollte. Macallan Select Oak 1824 sollte man pur oder auf Eis genießen. As a working distillery, visitors must wear sensible footwear on the distillery tour (no high heels or open toed shoes permitted). Unfortunately, dogs (except assistance dogs) are not permitted in the visitor centre or distillery. Minimum drinking age 18 years.  Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note some walking is required on the tour including some uneven surfaces and stairs (Full accessibility statement available).
