Preston Tucker conceived the Tucker 48, commonly referred to as the Tucker Torpedo which was produced in Chicago, Illinois in 1948. The Chevrolet Corvette C1 was the first generation of the Corvette sports car by Chevrolet. It was introduced late in 1953 and rushed into production due to public reaction, however it fell far short of expectations and was nearly cancelled.
