In the last two decades we have confirmed more than 1500 new planets, called exoplanets, orbiting other stars; thousands more are awaiting study. Undiscovered Worlds tells the tale surrounding this explosion of discovery and examines what will be required to determine which, if any, of these new exoplanets can support life. Explore artifacts from the Adler collections that illustrate the ever-evolving definition of a planet. This temporary exhibition, which is included with general admission, will be open to the public from March 19, 2016 through January 8, 2017. Mission Moon -  WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER Mission Moon invites you to experience America’s first steps into space through the eyes of NASA’s Captain James A. Lovell Jr. and his family. You’ll find out how the United States became the first nation to put a man on the Moon, what it’s really like to be an astronaut, and why it takes a team to explore uncharted worlds. Community Design Lab -  In the Community Design Lab (CDL), you can test different materials to find out which ones will survive the journey to 100,000 feet above the Earth’s surface. Your discoveries may find their way into a future flight with Far Horizons, the Adler’s high-altitude ballooning program! If you could photograph an object in space, what would it be, and who would you share it with? In the CDL, you can build a DIY telescope-mount for your smartphone and become an instant astrophotographer! Test it out on one of our ’scopes and share your photos on social media. In Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass, you’ll find extraordinary beauty and technology in some of the world’s most important telescopes and learn how these clever light-catching devices helped us discover our Universe. Clark Family Gallery  WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER This futuristic, constantly changing environment features a one-of-a-kind architecture with vibrant lighting and video presentations. It was created using approximately 13,000 linear feet of aluminum tubing and 20,000 square yards of fabric. The gallery also has 125 LED lights, each capable of producing sixteen million different colors and over two billion different lighting combinations. Astronomy in Culture -  WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER Go back in time and learn about some of the people and societies who have challenged themselves to understand our place in the Universe. This exhibition features spectacular astrolabes, armillary spheres, and sundials to illustrate the medieval European and Middle Eastern conception of the Universe. Visit our medieval classroom to find out how much different school was back then. Learn how to use early astronomy tools including astrolabes and sundials. Atwood Sphere -  WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER Experience the night sky over Chicago as it appeared in 1913 in the Atwood Sphere – Chicago’s oldest planetarium. Although the star positions have not changed since then, we can see only a small percentage of these stars in our current night sky due to light pollution. The sphere is seventeen feet in diameter and has 692 holes drilled through its metal surface. These holes allow light to enter and show the positions of the brightest stars in the night sky. Take a live guided tour of the Atwood Sphere and identify stars and the constellations they form.

The Palace is perhaps best known as the home of Mary, Queen of Scots, and as the setting for many of the dramatic episodes in her turbulent reign. Mary was married at Holyroodhouse and witnessed the brutal killing of her secretary Rizzio by her jealous second husband, Lord Darnley, in her private apartments. The Palace briefly served as the headquarters of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the 1745 uprising. Today the State Apartments are used regularly by The Queen and other members of the Royal Family for State ceremonies and official entertaining. What there is to see: The State Apartments reflect the changing tastes of successive monarchs and are renowned for their fine plasterwork ceilings and magnificent furnishings, particularly the unrivalled collection of Brussels tapestries.  One of the most famous rooms in the Palace is the Great Gallery, hung with  Jacob de Wet's portraits of the real and legendary kings of Scotland. Included on the visit, a display focuses on the Order of the Thistle, the highest honour in Scotland.  The Order honours Scottish men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a particular way to national life. Shown alongside historic insignia is an example of the mantle worn at the Thistle ceremony at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, which The Queen attends during her visit to the Palace in July. From 1 April to 31 October the gardens, which are today used for garden parties, can be included as part of a visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Visitors to the gardens must keep to the paths, which are about 400 yards long. El edificio que hoy sirve de sede al Museo Nacional del Prado fue diseñado por el arquitecto Juan de Villanueva en 1785, como Gabinete de Ciencias Naturales, por orden de Carlos III. No obstante, el destino final de esta construcción no estaría claro hasta que su nieto Fernando VII, impulsado por su esposa la reina María Isabel de Braganza, tomó la decisión de destinar este edificio a la creación de un Real Museo de Pinturas y Esculturas. El Museo Nacional del Prado, abrió por primera vez al público en 1819. El primer catálogo constaba de 311 pinturas, aunque para entonces en el Museo se guardaban ya 1510 obras procedentes de los Reales Sitios. Las valiosísimas Colecciones Reales, germen de la colección del actual Museo del Prado, comenzaron a tomar forma en el siglo XVI bajo los auspicios del emperador Carlos V y fueron sucesivamente enriquecidas por todos los monarcas que le sucedieron, tanto Austrias como Borbones. A ellos se deben los tesoros más emblemáticos que se pueden contemplar hoy en el Prado, tales como El jardín de las Delicias de El Bosco, El caballero de la mano en el pecho de El Greco, Las Meninas de Velázquez o La familia de Carlos IV de Goya. La visita se realizará en orden cronológico, comenzando con la sala donde se exhiben las obras maestras de J. Bosch (El Bosco) (1450-1516): La mesa de los 7 pecados capitales, El carro de heno, Las tentaciones de San Antonio, La piedra de la locura y El jardín de las Delicias, para proseguir con las salas dedicadas a El Greco (1540-1614): El caballero de la mano en el pecho, La trinidad, El Cristo abrazado a la cruz y La anunciación. Velázquez (1599-1660): La adoración, Los borrachos, retratos ecuestres, La fragua de Vulcano, el Cristo, Las hilanderas, Las lanzas y Las meninas, finalizando con Goya (1746-1828): la familia de Carlos IV, los retratos, Los fusilamientos del 2 de Mayo, las majas y las pinturas negras.

Con el Tour The Northside aprenderá aspectos de la historia de Dublín y sus leyendas más escalofriantes. Entre estas destacan: La historia de Lord Norbury, conocido por ser el infame y sádico “Juez Colgante” que presidió el juicio de Robert Emmet, un patriota irlandés que lucho por la emancipación de Irlanda. Lord Norbury fue odiado por el pueblo irlandés en vida y en la muerte regresó para continuar un reinado de terror. La leyenda de Scaldbrother, el infame ladrón medieval cuyo tesoro enterrado aún puede yacer en un laberinto de túneles debajo de Smithfield. La fábula sobre el mendigo apuesto y deforme Billy Davis, o “Billy the Bowl”, aterrorizó las calles del suburbio Grangegorman en el siglo XVIII. Además, el tour se aventura en el parque Croppies Acre. Este lugar fue abandonado durante muchos años, y en el siglo XX fue utilizado como campo de fútbol.
