Der Haflinger ist ein Gebirgspferd aus den Südtiroler Alpen und wurde nach dem Bergdorf Hafling benannt. Auf italienisch heißt es Avelengo, weshalb die Haflinger dort auch Aveligneser genannt werden. Die Heimat der Haflinger ist ein kleiner Ort im Hochgebirge der Südtiroler Alpen. Früher konnte man die Bergdörfer nicht mit dem Auto erreichen. Es gab meist nur schmale Pfade, die die Bauern nur zu Fuß oder mit einem trittsicheren Pferd wie dem Haflinger bewältigen konnten. Selbst auf den abenteuerlichsten Gebirgswegen bewegt es sich sicher fort. Die Bauern setzten es daher als Zugpferd ein und spannten Wagen oder Schlitten hinter das Pferd, um Lebensmittel und Waren zu transportieren. Heute ist der Haflinger ein beliebtes Sport- und Freizeitpferd. Wissenswertes Wenn bei der Haflinger-Zucht Araberpferde eingekreuzt werden, spricht man von Edelbluthaflingern.
