Edge Zones Edge Zone 1 - 1945 - 1962 The Anglo-American special relationship of the Second World War triggered an evolution of musical trends in Britain.  Big band music became popular through visiting GIs and the revived sounds of Dixieland and New Orleans trad jazz were introduced into the London scene. The do-it-yourself creed of 1950s skiffle encouraged young musicians to pick up cheap guitars and start their own groups. British pop was transformed by the rock'n'roll craze in the mid 1950s. Edge Zone 2 - 1962 - 1966 In the 1960s, British music went global with the irresistible tide of the 'British Invasion'.  The original look and sound of beat groups like The Beatles, R&B bands like The Rolling Stones and female singers like Petula Clark took America by storm and Britain became known as a pop powehouse. Edge Zone 3 - 1966 - 1970 British pop became increasingly involved in cultural exchanges with underground political activity, fashion, art and drugs. Inspired by the 1967 'Summer of Love' in San Francisco, Britain began to stage their own 'love-ins' and 'happenings', with themes of peace and love becoming the inspiration for music in this period. The 12" album toook centre stage and pop evolved into rock as music broke out of the small clubs onto the arena circuit and emerging festival scene.  Edge Zone 4 - 1970 - 1975 In contrast to the tough social and economic crisis of 1970s Britain, the charts began to fill with performers singing of escapism, glamour and excitement.  A darker vision of 1970s Britain soon appeared through albums like the post-apocalyptic Diamond Dogs by David Bowie and progressive rock flourished. The music industry expanded and audiences sought entertainment, making sell-out arena tours the pinnacle for any successful artist.  Edge Zone 5 - 1975 - 1985 This was a period of economic recession in Britain. Pop music reflected this with tougher, more outspoken styles.  Punk dramatised Britain's social divisions, while the grassroots Rock Against Racism movement popularised reggae and brought a return to political involvement.  Edge Zone 6 - 1985 - 1993 The mid-to-late 1980s was a time of accelerated social, economic, technical and political change. Videos, CDs and satellite broadcasting meant that music was more accessible to the masses.  The late 1980s were also a time of regional and musical diversity. Heavy metal was reborn, imported house music reached ecstatic heights with the 'Second Summer of Love' and the 'Madchester' scene was blossoming in the North.  Edge Zone 7 - 1993 - 2004 In the mid-1990s, 'Cool Britannia' swept through all areas of British identity. Britpop revived the traditional pop values of the 60s and 70s.  The period also saw the rise of manufactured boy bands and The Spice Girls unleashed 'Girl Power' on the world. The rise of Youtube and streaming gave audiences new ways to access music. It presented artists with unchartered waters in the form of new channels emerging to promote their music.  Edge Zone 8 - 2004 - Present 2004 saw the launch of X Factor. The manufacturing of pop stars by UK audiences is balanced by the diversity of artists rising to the top of the charts. Rap and R&B stars, indie bands and singer-songwriters take the download chart by storm.  The Future It is impossible to predict the future of British music.  Who will be the next superstar? how will we listen to music in 2025? Whatever the future, one thing we can be sure of is that the intimate relationship between music and the fan will always continue to transcend any technological, cultural or social barriers. This new, easy to use app provides a fully narrated tour in Chinese (Mandarin), German, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish. We're excited to offer this option to our international guests! How to download? Easy as 1, 2, 3! On the guest's phone, search and download "Chicago Trolley Tour" in the application store. Once downloaded, open the app and the language options will appear. Choose the language needed and download. There will be a prompt to enter a password. The password is Chicago (not case sensitive). Please provide password information only once ticket has been purchased. That's it! So how does it work? Headphones will be provided for any guest using the app. Using GPS, the app follows the guests as they enjoy the views from our double deckers and trolleys. The narration is based on plotted points along our tour route. Guests can even click on each point to read the information. Once downloaded, the app does not use data. In Polar Play Zone, you can slip into a penguin suit and try being a bird in the Icy South play area. From there, head to the Icy North to explore the belugas’ Arctic waters in a kid-sized submarine. Trip style: Walking tour, neighbourhood tour Language Tour: English Full Itinerary Strap on your walking shoes for what’s sure to be the most epic tour of Detroit’s historic Corktown this side of Michigan Avenue. We’ll start on a block that has been key to Corktown’s revival, where BBQ, burgers, coffee, and craft cocktails beckon crowds of hungry and thirsty Detroiters. From here, you’ll take in the contrasting views of Detroit’s highs and lows. We’ll walk toward the massive Michigan Central Railroad Station, left for ruin and a symbol of the decline of Detroit. We’ll get a good look at this hulking structure, which has been ranked as one of the “must-see” abandoned buildings in the world. To contrast that, we’ll continue our Detroit walking tour past the charming, colourful Victorian houses of residential Corktown. This is Detroit’s oldest neighbourhood, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Your guide will point out some local faves, like a charming Irish tavern, an indie record store, a great deli, and a popular new brewpub. We’ll also hear about the new microbrewery, start-up hub, and technology center that are helping to define Corktown as the neighbourhood to know. Along the way, your local guide will point out an early 19th-century church that’s one of oldest churches in Detroit. Hopefully by this point you’ve worked up an appetite for a visit to the new Detroit Institute of Bagels — yes, it’s as official as it sounds and for you bagel snobs out there (we see you, New York), they take traditional bagel-making seriously. Start your seventh-inning stretch as we return to Michigan Avenue for a mile-long stroll past The Greening of Detroit office (and learn a little about their tree-planting and beautification efforts), and to Ernie Harwell Park, the gone-but-not-forgotten former home of the Detroit Tigers. This was the home field for baseball greats like Ty Cobb, Hank Greenberg, and Al Kaline, and is where Nelson Mandela spoke shortly after his release from prison in South Africa. We’ll be sure to stop by Detroit Athletic Co. that started as a humble peanut stand and has grown to provide the best selection of sports swag. Along our Corktown tour, you’ll hear about the local funky spot for live music and art shows, and a favourite shop where you can get a “Coney dog” without having to go to Coney Island. Your local guide will also point out where to get some crazy-good shawarma sandwiches that Detroiters absolutely love, as well as epic burgers, wine, and charcuterie. Our colourful Detroit tour ends at a pot of gold in the Gaelic League Irish-American Club of Detroit. You may be a wee bit thirsty by the time we arrive, so we’ve got you covered with a complimentary half-pint. After the tour has officially ended, you’re free to stay at the Gaelic League for more beer or some Irish whiskey, or maybe you’ll want to visit the tasting room at Two James Distillery, or visit Batch Brewing Co., Brew Detroit, or one of the other great bars in Corktown.                         All aboard for Westeros!     We start the day by travelling along the  Causeway Coastal Route through beautiful coastal towns, including Ballycastle, which Game of Thrones fans will know as home to the actors who play Lady Catelyn Stark and Varys!       Main stops include:       Cushendun -  where we visit the Cave which featured Melisandre giving birth to the shadow assassin!   Ballintoy Harbour is the next port of call, where Theon Greyjoy cames back to Pyke Harbour.  This is so recognisable there has even been a plaque erected!   Giant’s Causeway – you can’t come this far without visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Sie   Carrick-a-Rede Ropebridge - you can't be so close and not fit in a visit to the Ropebridge - but please don't do a Balon Greyjoy!   Larrybane - where Renly swears to Lady Stark that he will avenge Ned's death, but meets his end at the hands of the shadow assassin conjured up in those caves you visited in Cushendun.   The Dark Hedges – Possibly the most recognisable of the locations where Arya Stark makes her escape down The Kings Road.
