Current Museum Exhibitions Our Senses: An Immersive Experience: November 20, 2017–January 6, 2019 We get to know our world through some or all of our senses—sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste—but they’re just parts of a much larger puzzle. The highly experiential exhibition Our Senses delves into how our brains work with sensory organs to shape our perceptions and reveals how, until recently in our evolutionary history, humans have been oblivious to nature’s other crucial signals, including UV light, infrared sounds, and electrical fields. Unseen Oceans: March 12, 2018–January 6, 2019 Oceans explores our blue planet’s defining feature—the world ocean—as revealed through 21st-century technology. Visitors to the exhibition will meet the elusive giants of the sea, including whales, sharks, giant squid; sink beneath the waves in a virtual submersible theater; and marvel at the vivid fluorescence displayed by marine creatures but invisible to us . . . until now. And they’ll leave with a deeper awareness that the future of the planet depends on the future of the ocean. The Butterfly Conservatory (October 7th, 2017 - May 29th, 2019) This exhibition, an annual favorite, features up to 500 live, free-flying tropical butterflies from the Americas, Africa, and Asia. The butterflies are housed in a vivarium that approximates their natural habitat, includes live flowering plants that serve as nectar sources, and features controlled artificial light, temperature, and humidity. T. rex: The Ultimate Predator: (March 11, 2019 - June 16th, 2019) This exhibition will focus on the on the genus of dinosaurs known as tyrannosaurs. The exhibition will explore how these mega-predators came to be, with an emphasis on the most famous and impressive member of the family, Tyrannosaurus rex. Updated Climate Change Exhibit Understand one of the most urgent scientific issues of our time. explore how climate change is affecting the world today as well as what might happen in the future if the current course continues. Current Museum Films Space Show – Hayden Planetarium Dark Universe: narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson, Director of the Hayden Planetarium Celebrate the pivotal discoveries that have led us to greater knowledge of the structure and history of the universe and our place in it—and to new frontiers for exploration. From Edinburgh you will travel north-west, passing Stirling Castle, before making your first stop at Kilmahog. Here there will be a break for some light refreshments and the chance to see some Highland cattle up close. Next you travel onwards through Rob Roy Country of Clans MacGregor and Campbell, then over the dramatic landscape of Rannoch Moor to Glencoe, one of Scotland’s most famous glens, site of the 1692 massacre of the Clan MacDonald. Here you can pause for a photo stop and to soak up the atmosphere in this haunting glen.  Continuing via Loch Linnhe, stopping in the Fort William area for lunch, then journey onwards, passing beneath Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, before we enter the natural beauty of the Great Glen. Travelling on, you can admire the Caledonian Canal and the pretty village of Fort Augustus, enjoying spectacular views of Loch Ness, as you drive along the shoreline to Urquhart Castle.  Loch Ness, 24 miles long and over 700 feet deep, is most famous for sightings of the Loch Ness monster, affectionately known as “Nessie”. You will spend 2 hours at Loch Ness, where you can choose to explore the ruins of Urquhart Castle*, learn of its history inside the modern visitor centre, and take an Award Winning Jacobite cruise* across the loch.  Passing through Inverness, Capital of the Highlands, you start your return for home, crossing the Grampian Mountains and the woodland scenery of Perthshire, including the Forest of Atholl, before enjoying an evening refreshment stop at the Victorian resort town of Pitlochry, en route back to Edinburgh. *OPTIONAL EXTRA. Poliorama Theatre The Teatre Poliorama was inaugurated in 1906, it was built inside the building of “Real Academia de Ciencias y Artes” of Barcelona. Located in the heart of the Ramblas of Barcelona, one of the most famous and visited streets in the world, the Teatre Poliorama has always played a prominent role in the catalan cultural life. During the Spanish Civil War, seized by the CNT-FAI, was the scene of shootings carried out by members of the POUM and CNT that George Orwell described in his work “Homage to Catalonia”. A personal story of the writer about his participation in the conflict between the years of 1937 and 1938. The Teatre Poliorama is considered a classic of Las Ramblas and one of the main points of diffusion of culture in Barcelona. Program:
