Finding Hobbiton! In 1998, Sir Peter Jackson’s team of location scouts were searching for the iconic rolling hills and lush green pastures of Hobbiton™. An aerial search led them to the Alexander farm, a stunning 1,250 acre sheep farm in the heart of the Waikato. They noted the area’s striking similarity to The Shire™, as described by JRR Tolkien, and quickly realised that the Hobbits™ had found a home. In one particular part of the farm, a magnificent pine tree towered over a nearby lake, adjacent to a rising hill. Bag End now sits atop that hill, overlooking the Party Tree, as that pine would later be known. The surrounding areas were untouched; no power lines, no buildings and no roads in sight. This meant that Sir Peter Jackson could leave the 20th century behind, and fully submerge himself in the fantasy world of Middle-earth™. In March 1999 the crew began the nine month quest to bring the ideas for Hobbiton to fruition; help was provided by the New Zealand Army, and soon 39 temporary Hobbit Holes™ were scattered across the 12 acre plot used for the set. Secrecy was key, and strict security measures were put in place by the production company throughout construction and filming. Filming commenced in December 1999, and it took around three months to get a wrap on The Shire. After an initial attempt at demolition, 17 bare plywood facades remained. These shells would serve as the catalyst that propelled Hobbiton forward into the public eye, with guided tours commencing in 2002. In 2009, Sir Peter Jackson returned to film The Hobbit trilogy, and he left behind the beautiful movie set you’ll see today; 44 permanently reconstructed Hobbit Holes, in the same fantastic detail seen in the movies. In 2012 The Green Dragon™ Inn was opened as the finale to the journey. Guests now finish their Hobbiton Movie Set experience with a refreshing beverage from the Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ Range. There’s an abundance of movie magic nestled inside the fully operational farm.

City Sightseeing! A great way to discover Limassol Hop on, Hop off the bus (stop 3) and visit the Old Town, wonder through its narrow streets with its picturesque shuttered houses. Stop off at the medieval Limassol Castle, before taking a walk along the Molos waterfront promenade with its fantastic ocean views and the Old Port with its buzzing atmosphere. Visit museums and archaeological places of interest in and around the city!  Why not render into the city's past at the Archaeological Museum and Pattichion Historical Archive (stop 2) not ending your journey back in time there. Leaving the city of Limassol, discover the medieval Kolossi Castle (stop 7 & 12) and the Byzantine Chapel of Ayios Ermoyenis (stop 8 & 10) the ruins of the ancient city-kingdom of Kourion (stop 9) where you will be able to see its well-preserved mosaics, Royal Tomb and Greco-Roman theatre. Hop off the bus at the Cyprus Wine Museum (stop 11)!  The museum which has a history for wine dating back some 5,500 years, it is near Erimi village centre.  

We put the wild in Wild Florida at our Gator and Wildlife Park. Get up close and personal with more than 200 animals in the Middle of Nowhere! Take your time exploring the interesting habitats and heritage of our animals. Talk to our experts about what it’s like to care for these amazing animals and how our population of lemurs, zebra, watusi, bobcat, sloth, and other exotic animals has grown over the past year. There’s something for every member of your family at our Gator and Wildlife Park. Kids will love feeding and learning more about baby animals in our Petting Zoo. Moms and Dads can rest easy knowing that there is a covered playground for kids to run around when they need to let off some energy. Grandma, Grandpa, and the whole extended family will love exploring our Hawk Swamp where owls often roost in the coolness of the cypress tree-canopied boardwalk. Admission to the Gator and Wildlife Park is free with the purchase of an Airboat Tour, but the Gator and Wildlife Park admission can be purchased separately if you want to spend as much time as you can exploring the animals up close. A visit to Florida would not be complete without a #GatorHug! You can see and hold one of our gators during our Gator Handling Show. We also offer interactive programs ranging from becoming an animal keeper for a day to taking a #slothie (a selfie with a sloth, of course!).
