Lippia citriodora Elle est apparue, venant d Amerique du sud au XVIIIeme siecle, et son parfum puissant lui a valu une renommee rapide. Sur le plan botanique, elle est un peu mysterieuse, puisqu on dit d elle qu elle ne rdquo;fructifie pas en Europerdquo; ; sa multiplication ne peut se faire que par bouture. C est une plante des Andes, ou elle pousse entre 2000 et 3000 metres d altitude. De nombreux livres de phytotherapie n en font meme pas mention, son introduction etant recente. Tout juste lui accorde-t-on des vertus digestives. En realite c est bien plus pour son gout tres particulier, a la fois citronne et doux, qu elle est recherchee. On peut meme l utiliser en cuisine, en patisserie notamment, et bien sur dans la fabrication de liqueurs. Elle souvent confondue avec la verveine officinale (verbena officinalis), ou avec la citronnelle (cymbopogon citratus). Il n y a pas de ressemblances entre ces trois plantes, mais leurs noms respectifs pretent a confusion.
