Dieser Baum ist immergrün und stachelig und erreicht nach einer Zeit von etwa 200 Jahren eine Höhe von 8-10 Metern. Er produziert kleine grüne Steinfrüchte, die Oliven ähneln und orange werden, wenn sie reif sind. In ihrem Inneren findet man zwei kleine Samenkerne, aus denen das Arganöl gepresst wird, das bereits seit Jahrtausenden zur Hautpflege verwendet wird.
