Inis Oírr (translates from Oirthir meaning “Eastern Island”) – the smallest of the three Aran Islands

The island enjoys a good tourist trade, mainly from Doolin, as it is only a 30 minute ferry across from here. There are many attractions here for both day-trippers and people who want to visit for longer.

Historical Sites
Stone Fort – Dun Formna, built near the highest point on the island, contains O’Brien’s Castle within it’s wall
Churches – Cill Gobnait, Cill na n-Seacht Inion and St. Caomhan (St.Kevin’s) Church, the latter is a spectacular ruin, located in the graveyard on Inis Oirr. Over the years, sand has been blown in and around the church to make it appear as if it has sunk into the ground.
Recent History – The Plassey Shipwreck is a famous landmark on Inis Oirr, she wrecked here in March 1960. Read more about in in our Blog.
Arts Centre – Aras Eanna is the only Arts Centre in the Gaeltacht. Throughout the year therare exhibitions and workshops hosted here. See their comprehensive website for more information.

Q: I’ve never ridden a bike before. Is this a good bike to learn on?
A: Yes! If you want to learn to ride a bike, we can direct you to some good locations to learn to ride in, such as the Charles River Esplanade and the Boston Common. Of course, we recommend learning with an experienced rider alongside you!
Q: I want to go on a long ride. Can I put my pedals and odometer and aerobars and special saddle and rack on the bike?
A: Of course. Our mechanics can install any accessories you would like to have during your rental for a nominal installation and removal fee. Please contact us directly so that we can make the necessary arrangements before you arrive. Please do not modify our bicycles yourself! You will be liable for any damage you cause to the bike.

La cúpula Imax hace las veces de “pupila” del ojo y el “párpado” se abre y cierra mediante unos elevadores hidráulicos encargados del movimiento de la gigantesca cubierta de acero y cristal. El edificio está rodeado por un gran estanque cuyo fondo es acristalado, lo que ayuda en gran medida a crear la ilusión de estar ante un ojo real.
