Der dbx 1231 ist ein zweikanaliger Terzband-EQ mit 45 mm Fadern auf 3 HE. Alle Bedienelemente auf der Frontplatte sind übersichtlich und logisch angeordnet. Der einstellbare Frequenzbereich ist gemäss ISO Standard von 20 Hz - 20 kHz. Die HF-gefilterten Ein- und Ausgänge sind parallel auf XLR, Klinke und Barrier-Strips jeweils symmetrisch ausgeführt. Mit dem Input-Gain Regler lässt sich der Eingangspegel um +/- 12 dB anpassen. Als Low-Cut wirkt ein Bessel-Filter mit 18 dB/Oktave bei 40 Hz, dieser ist schaltbar. Der Einstellbereich der Fader lässt sich von +/- 6 dB auf +/- 15dB umschalten. Der Pegel am Ausgang wird mittels vier LEDs angezeigt. Eine Clip-LED signalisiert Übersteuerungen innerhalb des EQs. Die Signal-Masse ist mittels Jumper von der Gehäuse-Masse abtrennbar. Im Bypass, sowie im stromlosen Betrieb schalten Relais die Eingänge auf die Ausgänge.
