The opening of the musée du quai Branly, in June 2006, helped legiti­ mize long misunderstood cultures and finally made them accessible to a wider public. 300,000 works and objects from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas make up the collection of the museum, whose mission is to conserve, document and enrich.  As a resource of messages and potential connections between world cultures, the collection is a point of departure from which the museum has shaped its identity: that of a museum for the 21st Century with inno­vative architecture and museography, all in the heart of a major interna­tional capital. The musée du quai Branly is a museum that does not claim to teach from a position of authority; rather, it sets out to create bridges between cultures, while encouraging curiosity and attracting visitors from diffe­rent backgrounds with varied interests. Within the museum, diverse skills and perspectives create the ideal context for the collection, giving rise to cultural, artistic and scientific proposals, from different levels of interpretation and approaches, be it via temporary exhibitions, performing arts, lectures or conferences. The quality and renewal of this myriad of offerings depend upon the public making the museum their own and upon their desire to keep coming back. How to Use the Brussels Card? Your Brussels Card is valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours from when it's first used in a museum You must use your Brussels Card for the first time within a year of its purchase date. How to Use the Brussels Card at the Museum? For as long as your card is valid, you can visit the same museum as many times as you like. You won’t have to pay anything. Simply present your Brussels Card at the ticket desk and it will be electronically validated. Your Brussels Card will be automatically activated the first time you use it. The Brussels Card gives you free access to all permanent collections of the museums. Most of the temporary exhibitions are also included, except for the Old Masters Museum, the Natural Sciences Museum and the Cinquantenaire Museum where you pay the normal entrance fee if you want to visit the temporary exhibitions. How to get on the Hop on Hop Off bus? Simply present your Brussels Card when getting on the Hop on Hop off buses. How do Discounts work? The discounts for the various attractions, tours, shops, restaurants and bars provided in this guide are for single use only! The discounts remain valid, even after your Brussels Card has expired. In the old part of city, our guide will take us to the cathedral, the Palace of the Grand Duke and the Place des Armes. In the lower part of the city you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Kirchberg district, home to several European institutions. In the valley, we will show you a trail of casemates, the abbey of Neunmünster, Wenceslas wall and the picturesque sites along the river Alzette. After some free time in the city, we visit the picturesque village of Dinant, with its fifteenth century collegial, its citadel and its tiny saxophone museum (optional). On the way back to Brussels, we follow leisurely the pretty Meuse Valley.
